Art was one of my main subject choices when I trained as a teacher in Liverpool. I taught in primary education and benefited from living in a variety of countries including Germany, Gibraltar and Brunei. On returning to the North West in 2004 I finally settled in Kirkby Stephen. To devote more time to my painting, experimentation and development of ideas I chose to teach part time.

I was selected for exhibition at the Upfront Gallery and Milnthorpe as well as shows in local art clubs. When Anne Smithies had the Chapel Gallery in Hawes she showed my work and gave me a solo exhibition in her gallery. I have been a part of T’Aint Modern in Kirkby Stephen. I am a member of Green Door Artists and EVAN. I am also a member of Lloyds Art Group in London.

My studio is a static caravan in Crosby Garrett overlooking the magnificent North Pennines. Constantly changing skies, weather fronts coming in and wide vistas form an inspirational basis for much of my work, described at times as semi abstract, I also have a tranche of work that is more realistic yet still rooted in nature.

I work from sketches, developing them on canvas using acrylic paint and inks. Many of my paintings are multilayered through which I scratch to create particular effects. I place a great deal of importance on texture and use a variety of  mark making techniques to achieve a rich and varied s
